Goldenrod Summer Showers Organic Seed Solidago - canadensis
Extend your garden season with these late-blooming 2ft-5ft tall fountains of gold! Perennial in USDA zones 4-8, it is a must for every butterfly and songbird garden. In the fall when little else is blooming, it provides sustenance for butterflies, bees, and birds. The gorgeous shower of golden sprays is also home for other beneficial insects such as the praying mantis and Goldenrod spider. For a striking contrast, try growing it with purple flowers such as Russian Sage, asters, mums, and ornamental grasses. (Goldenrod is often blamed for seasonal allergies due to its resemblance to ragweed, but its pollen is too heavy to be airborne and is falsely blamed.)
When to plant outside: Spring, 3-4 weeks before the average last frost.
When to start inside: 8-10 weeks before the average last spring frost. Transplant seedlings outside after the average last frost. |
