Radish Daikon Miyashige White - Botanical Interest Organic Seed
Raphanus - sativus
Item #
This Japanese winter radish is beautiful and crisp with mild flavor. A white-necked Daikon type, it is an exciting, crunchy, slightly spicy addition to sushi, stir-fries, winter salads, or sliced and eaten fresh for hors doeuvres. It is best planted in late summer or early fall. The roots can be harvested at any stage into winter before the ground freezes. This packet plants: About 55 plants after thinning.
When to Plant Outside: RECOMMENDED. Late summer or early fall, 60 days before first fall frost.
When to start inside: Not recommended.
Special Sowing & Germination Instructions: To keep the Miyashige very white and straight, plant in trenches and mound soil to blanch as they grow. Radishes love cool temperatures to grow in, but fairly warm soil to germinate. After seeding radishes, place black plastic over soil for 3 days to warm the soil and encourage germination. Remove plastic immediately after seedlings appear.
Harvesting: Harvest in late fall or early winter before the ground freezes. Daikon radishes can be harvested at any size tiny for hors doeuvres or large for cooking. Larger daikons actually still have good flavor. |
